Hello from Violet and Lilly - Week 10 learning Term 2

Kaya,

This blog has been expertly created by Violet Mouritz and Lilly DeMarchi, and I am sure you will agree that they have done a wonderful job.

Now that we are in the season Makaru, you can really feel the cold winds coming! Makaru is by far my favourite season because we get to snuggle up near the fire while little plants start forming. We have had a great week 10!

🎈Fun Fact🎈
Lilly Demarchi was 7 years old when she got chased by bull in the dark when she was up north.

👏🎤Year 6 Has Got Talent💃🏃

⭐⭐Star Citizen Award⭐⭐
Well done to Jasper Edwards who received our 6H Star Citizen award for Appreciation. Jasper is an outstanding Year 6 role model. He continually demonstrates manners, words and actions that show appreciation to those around him. He has an admirable ability to showcase appreciation for all opportunities that come his way, whether it be a challenge or something he already thrives at, like his golfing skills. Jasper does not shy away from hard work and he is a diligent and dedicated learner. He  approaches all learning tasks in a positive and enthusiastic way and appreciates the challenge it brings.  OLC is very lucky to have Jasper as a true leader in our school. Well done Jasper.

Learning from week 10 of Term 2:

Dance Dress Rehearsal:
The OLC dance concert is coming along with our wonderful dance teacher Miss Haines, working hard and hosting a big dress rehearsal on Tuesday from 9:40 untill 1 with 9 dances to get through. Well done Miss Haines, we think you are amazing!
Don’t forget that on Friday the 2nd of July, we have our OLC dance extravagance what an exiting thing to look forward to.

Writing:
In writing this week we have been working hard, finishing our South West animal information report. I am doing my report on the echidna. And Lilly is doing her report on the pelican. We had to research and write down their habitat, diet, physical appearance, lifestyle and find a link to Wadandi Culture.

Spelling:
This week we are focusing our sound waves sheet on the new sound for the week and the sound for this week is [or] for horse 🐴.

Health:
This week in health we are continuing our learning on friendships. We started this week looking at Power in Friendships. For example we learnt that some friendships can have one person that is in control. We looked at ways that you can identify this unhealthy balance of power and ways that you can work on it.

Pen Pals:
This week we got to write our first letters to our new elderly pen pals from a local retirement village in Dunsborough. Each class in OLC was assigned 3/4 beautiful names to start corresponding with. 6H will be writing to, Dallan, Geoffery, Chris and Nancy. Below is a word sleuth that Noah Brice made for his new pen pal using names from 6H.

Important Information:

Lunchtime Footy -
Dear Parents, please remind students that if they are playing footy at lunch during school then there is:
No tackling, grabbing or slinging (Noah really hurt last week)
No contact except for a tap/touch for the ball to be released immediately.
One bounce only, then kick or hand pass.

Year 6 Adoration -
On Friday the 2nd after recess, 6H will have the priviledge of walking to the Church to participate in the Eucharistic Adoration that occurs each month within the church. It will be a special opportunity where the students will have the time to be still and reflect on themselves and their relationship with others, in particular God.

Character Strengths -
Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. If you wanted to learn more about this please follow the link to the 24 character strengths: https://www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths
