Week 6 Learning and Information

Image
K AY A, It has been wonderful to see some of the students back to class that have been absent. I cannot wait until we have a full class again!  We explored the history behind National Sorry Day and participated in some activities and celebrations which made this learning real for the students. Next week we will be celebrating National Reconciliation Week . It has been wonderful to see and hear the students mature, open responses to this important day in Australian History and participate in the healing of a country.  This weekend I went to Wellington Dam to enjoy the view of the spectacular mural on the dam wall. This mural is the biggest mural on a dam in the world. How wonderful that this is on our back doorstep. Artist Guido van Helten titled the huge 8000 square metre mega-mural “Reflections.” It took four months to complete and features images of Collie mines workers, families playing in the water, a celebration of Aboriginal children and other scenes taken from actual photogra

K AY A, It has been a busy week, the students have been working very hard and are really embracing their leadership roles. We are starting our preparations for Camp in Term 3 and for the Human Development workshop in week 8.  A massive thank you to Lauren Heitman who baked the marvelous cupcakes for the students when they received their Confirmation certificates. πŸ§πŸ•ŠπŸ’• 6H Merit Award Well done to Elliott Birch for receiving the merit award for week 4 for 6H. Elliott received this award for his outstanding leadership skills and work ethic that he displays every day at school. We are very lucky to have a student like Elliott in 6H. He continues to not only show the OLC school values to all those around him including his peers, teachers and environment. We will be very sad to see him leave at the end of this term but know that he will succeed in everything he does. Well done Elliott.   Year 6 Camp  Thankfully, the Year 6 camp is back on (Yipee)! It will be held in week 2 Term 3, in Waroo

K AY A, First let me say, how very proud I was of both our 6H candidates and buddies this morning at the Sacrament of Confirmation. πŸ’– It was a beautiful ceremony and the students were reverent and made all of OLC proud. Well done to all of the candidates that received the Holy Spirit and a special thank you to Bishop Holohan, Father Ian and Mrs Meyer for their hard work and support on this beautiful ceremony. The OLC band also rocked the room, thank you to Mrs King for the preparations on this! πŸ₯πŸŽΈπŸŽ€ Friendology As part of our whole school approach to managing and supporting student friendships at OLC, we will be continuing to use the URSTRONG Friendology program. URSTRONG is an award-winning friendship program that empowers kids with friendship skills to create communities of kindness in schools. In order to really expose the students to this program, this year you may have noticed that the students have a friendology diary. Every month there is a key focus, it would be great if you

K AY A, I look forward to seeing you tonight at the Confirmation Commitment Mass. It will be nice to see our class buddies supporting our Confirmation candidates.  This week in class we have had to go over our class pledge and revisit the OLC values and expectations to ensure that we all create a positive learning environment for each other including pushing ourselves and trying our best and spreading kindness.  We were very lucky that the sun shone bright on our walk to the Church for our Confirmation practice. A big thank you to Mrs Meyer for taking time out of her schedule to come and practice for Confirmation at the Church on Thursday. The students were beautifully reverent and all worked very hard. We all feel very prepared for our big day and we cannot wait to celebrate it with you all.  A very special Happy Mother's Day goes out to all the Moms, Grandmothers, Big Sisters, Friends and Ladies who celebrate tomorrow and who celebrate what it means to be a mom to those in thei

K AY A, I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, in the beautiful sunshine. I know I took some walks on the beach with the dogs and did some marking in the sun. 🌞 I had a really lovely first week back with the students of 6H and feel very lucky that I get to watch them grow and learn this year. I am grateful for those parents that have come in to meet with me this week. It was lovely to meet you and set some goals for your child. πŸ’Ÿ  It has been an absolute pleasure to watch the students present their Saint Box presentations this week, the creativity and research that has been put into this project has really blown me away. To see some images and the students mark for this project please keep an eye on Seesaw!  The awesome 6H Leader and Role Model for week 1 of Term 2 is Lockie Davies! πŸ…πŸ₯‡ Lockie recived the merit award for week 1 of Term 1 for his outstanding levels of appreciation shown to his peers, the teachers around him and his learning environment.
