Term 4 Week 7 learning and Important Information

 Kaya,

I cannot believe that there is only 3 weeks left with 6H. I have just realised that we are now super close to the finish line and it's that time of year where no matter how hard I try to slow everything down it is just not going to happen! With reports on the go, seesaw tasks being prepared, graduation around the corner and our final excursion less than 3 weeks away, I feel that I am going to be constantly running...so apologies if I do miss something along the way. Please let me know if I do, and I'll get on top of it straight away! This week we had some very big laughs as the kids creatively came up with their own rap songs. They were full of figurative language whilst also including a joke or two.😎 This weekend I went back to my Irish roots and watched the amazing "A Taste of Ireland" show. It was spectacular and made my slightly homesick. ☘☘☘☘

Term 4 week 7 Information:

Seesaw Reporting
With the end of Semester Two approaching us, your child will soon be receiving their end of year report. Please be reminded that each Seesaw post that has been posted over the semester is a reflection of that individual learning sample and may not necessarily be their overall grade for that subject.

You would have seen over the past few weeks a variety of work in different learning areas. One of these posts was our Informal Prose Inventory Reading assessment results. This was a small recording of your child's reading at the level they are currently sitting at. Some students had moved up a couple of levels which signaled excellent growth. On the rubric you should have seen your child's reading age/level, fluency score, accuracy rate, retell and comprehension score and whether they were 'working towards', 'at' or 'above' standard. There was some significant improvements from Semester 1, which was brilliant to see!

The Visual Arts post was a special post, as the students really enjoyed and were quite proud of what they achieved in this task. You would have seen a beautifully drawn scene from the novel 'Once', using one point perspective and different shading techniques. As well as this, the students composed a beautiful description of the setting they drew using their senses to inspire the figurative language techniques they used. It definitely was a personal favourite of mine.

Most recently you would have seen the Algebra Assessment, which placed a large focus on using the balance strategy to find unknown values, BEDMAS (for us old folk - BIMDAS) to complete the order of operations in an equation and finally working with linear and function patterns. This is one of my favourite topics in Math's and the students did incredibly well, with many students achieving personal bests within their results. Not to mention an incredibly high class average!

If you haven't seen any of these posts as yet, get onto SEESAW and I'm sure you will be chuffed with the progress your child is making. We aim to keep you updated with your child's progress across all learning areas and give you as much transparency in your child's learning as possible. If there are any questions or queries about your child's progress in any subject area, please don't hesitate to email us to arrange a meeting.

High School Orientation Days
Last Friday we had 11 students off at the Bunbury Grammar Year 7 Orientation Day for 2022. We hope they had a great day, from previous years' accounts the students are completely immersed in fun and have an absolute blast.

This Thursday 25th November St Mary MacKillop have their Year 7 Orientation Day and we wish the students well on this day. There is no bus supplied by OLC or SMMC on this day, therefore it is up to individual families to get your child there on the day. Unfortunately we are not given any details about these days, therefore if you have any questions you'll have to contact the high schools directly.
For those who will be at school this Thursday, we have plenty of Graduation jobs that need to be completed.

Vinnies Christmas Appeal
There will be a box at the front of 6H for collections next week for Vinnie's Christmas Appeal. Please be generous and thoughtful in what you donate. The school have asked the Year 6 students to provide the following Christmas Goodies: Chocolates, tinned fruit, non-perishable fruit juices, nuts, small gifts, pampering items, vouchers (KMart, coffee, etc). Thank you in advance for your support and donations. πŸ’—

Candle Stall

There are signs that have been placed around the school with what is for sale as well as prices. I will keep any purchases safe so there is no risk of them being damaged.

If you have any of the following, could you please ask the students to bring it along on the day. Gardening gloves, small gardening tools like hand weeders, hand spades etc. Tasks will include some maintenance around the church including weeding, litter collection, window washing, dusting, sweeping etc.

Please note that members of the choir and OLC Dance Crew are asked to wear white with any Christmas accessories they would like to add. Mrs Sherborne and Mrs Haines.

We are missing some baby photos and a few of both babies and toddlers. We would like to create a PowerPoint for Graduation with these special photos, as well as others from their time at OLC. If you have any ripper photos from your child's time at OLC, we would greatly appreciate any donations. Please email them through so I can get onto this job as soon as I can.

Character Strengths
Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character.
