Important Camp Reminders and Important Information

KAYA,

Can you believe that it is only 3 sleeps until we depart for Year 6 camp???
The students are going to have the most amazing time; we will be taking part in activities like wall climbing, zip-lining, abseiling and orienteering as well as lots of fun group activities.

Please remember we will depart OLC at 8.50 on Wednesday morning. Your student will need to arrive at normal school time (8.30am) and place their bags for camp outside the hall in front of the double doors. They will then make their way to the classroom for the class role. Students will need to ensure they have used the bathroom as the bus is a two hour drive. They will also need to take out any medical items from their bag and provide this to the teacher in a clear zip lock bag with their name on it.

Even though it is a very exciting time, we are aware that for many, it is a time for nervousness. To help with this, we are reading and studying a book about a student preparing for camp - "Michaela Mason's Big List of Camp Worries". Through the study of this novel we are learning about resilience and have  discussed and prepared our resilience tool kit for our own camp worries. Recognising that all students have some worries no matter how big or small. Hopefully, the discussions and the recognition that we are all in this together, will go some way to relieve some of the nervousness that they may face before and during camp. However, if your child is especially nervous, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

We hope the students have started to prepare their bags for camp using the camp what to bring list below. The advice we gave the students during the week was to use their packing list and cross the items off as they put them in their bag so they do not forget any items.

Please note the cost for camp is now due to the office.
Also, your child should have brought home a letter during the week about the ever changing COVID caseloads and what this means for camp next week. Please ensure you have read this letter and understand all the requirements as this will allow us to keep your child safe on camp. Below is a brief outline of the main points on the letter:

  1. If your child has had COVID since week 10 of Term 2 (29th of June) please ensure the CEWA self-reporting portal on our school website has been updated.
  2. Students/staff that are identified as close contacts as currently defined by the WA Government, are UNABLE to attend camp until they are no longer classified as a close contact.
  3. Students/staff that are identified as close contacts whilst on camp will undertake daily RAT tests, follow current WA Government mandates (mask wearing) and be monitored for symptoms. Provided they are negative and asymptomatic, they will continue with camp activities following current WA Governement guidelines.
  4. Should a close contact become symptomatic, they will isolate and need to be collected from camp within a four hour timeframe.
Symptomatic/Positive Result
  1. Students/staff that become symptomatic whilst on camp will undergo a RAT and isolate until symptoms abate. Parents will be contacted and informed should this occur.
  2. Should a student/staff member unfortunately return a positive result, they will need to be collected within four hours of the test result, as they will need to remain isolated and be cared for by staff during this time.
RAT
  1. Students/staff will need to undertake a RAT on the morning of camp. These can be supplied without cost to families prior to the day from the front office. To board the camp bus, you will need to send a photograph of the RAT result via email to your child's classroom teacher between 6.30am - 7.45am Wednesday morning.
  2. As mentioned in the camp permission form, staff will need to supervise a RAT to a student who has symptoms or has been identified as a close contact. Please note that this includes staff administering the RAT/assisting the child administer the RAT (as required).
  3. Staff and students will consistently monitor for symptoms for the duration of the camp, and if symptomatic, will undertake a RAT as per government guidelines.
Please be aware that the camp may be cancelled due to COVID at any time. Please rest assured that the school is currently working on a contingency plan should this occur.

Let us pray for a wonderful camp for the Year 6 students.
We pray that camp will be a very safe place for our staff and students.
We pray for safety for our activities and our programs, and health for all campers and staff.
We pray for our staff and parents attending camp, may they be blessed with patience, kindness and students who sleep.
We pray for our students who attend camp, we pray for them to settle into camp well, for their endurance and energy during all activities, may they all grow closer to Jesus while they are on camp.
We pray that any pre-camp nerves will wash away and that they will be granted with the words and the smiles to meet each day and the challenges it brings.
We also pray for the camp support staff, for the kitchen and maintenance and housekeeping crew who work so hard to make camp a special place.
Amen.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.
Slan Go Foill,
Miss Hurst
