Djeran- the month of cruising winds and flying ants, and already, another week has passed. We will be showing you a number of things that we have been challenged to and completed in class. The students have been working flat out hard in order to finish their work. Also, did you know that Georgia raised $553 for project compassion by selling candles. WOW! And, our year 6 performance assembly is NEXT WEEK!! Oh it’s giving me chills already. Sit back, relax, because ladies and gentlemen the blog is finally here!

⭐⭐Merit Award⭐⭐
Congratulations to Hudson Morris for winning our Merit Award at the end of week 3 for his development and use of  leadership skills when taking on new roles and responsibilities around the school. Learning from the last week of Term 2:

Maths:
This week in maths we are learning all about fractions. So far we have learnt how to add and subtract fractions, Shout out to Mr Sherbourne for doing a great job. At the start of the week the two amazing teachers decided to change how we learnt math so it would be more enjoyable then just plain old math. They have done this by making 4 groups from both classes with 6H students with 6R students. The way we now learn mathematics is, there are four rotations that include guided practice and independent practice. Guided practice is were we learn fractions with the teachers and independent practice is were we play a fraction board game made from the amazing year 6 teachers and we also play mathletics in independent practice.

Writing:
Like last term, we are continuing with our Adaptive Narnia Stories. Everyone has been working on their Story Roller-coasters. Story Roller-coasters are used to help plan a story. Everyone has used these coasters to write their 3 mini problems and climax through out their story. The students have been focused on their description of the build up to ‘reach the top of the abseiling tower’!(That was a camp reference…).

Spelling:
Unit Thirteen is made for the Green!
Unit 13 is here and we have a truck load of words, corrections and the good old Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check! Again using the program of soundwaves to teach kids about the grapheme ‘ai’ as in snail, and using the set list words (chosen by the teachers) for our LSCWC and our spelling homework.

Djeran Art:

Since it is the season of Djeran, from the Wadandi Six Seasons Calendar, the students have been assigned to make an art about Djeran. They had to pick between trees that flowered in Djeran, Australian Shelducks, native frogs and snails that you can see in this season.

Important Information:

Year 6 Assembly:
This Friday 14th May, we have our Performance assembly in the hall at 2.15. It is quite the mash up - it will show case some of the learning that has taken place around our reading groups, entwined with a bit of camp humour, not to mention throwing in a bit of a reality game show! We hope to see you there.

Book Fair Week 5
On Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 5, Mrs Kemp will be running a Book Fair again, selling books and posters to raise funds for the school's library resources. We hope you are able to support this fundraiser.

Community Support:
Dear OLC Community,
As you know one of our family's recently suffered the unexpected loss of their husband and father in February this year. Dave Clift was husband to Annmarie and dad to Violet in Year 5H, and to former OLC students Damon (17), and Sunny (15). Annmarie has been overwhelmed by the love and support she has already received in terms of willing listeners, shoulders to cry on and lovingly prepared meals. Many people have continued to ask how they might best help the family as they move forward. Here is a way. Without Dave and an income, Annmarie could really use some financial support. If you are able, even if in a small way to contribute to this Go Fund Me Campaign, she would be forever grateful. Thank you and may God Bless you.
