Hello from Rhavi and Cam - Week 6 learning Term 2

Kaya,

This blog has been expertly created by Rhavi Howard and Cam Spencer, and I am sure you will agree that they have done a wonderful job.

Wadandi boodja, Wadan Boonar Moort Kaaditjin Wongi, Nitcha Wadandi Noongar Boodja. Happy Birthday Cam who celebrated his 11th Birthday on Thursday, and Happy Birthday in advance to Ari who’s birthday is coming up on the 30th of May. To all the parents reading this blog, we hope you’ve had a lovely and rejuvenating week. We are also currently still in the season of Djeran which is the season in which cooler weather begins, it is also known as the season of adulthood. It is almost at its end slowly fading into Makuru, the coldest and wettest time of the year, more frequent gales and storms. Also known as the fertility season.

So, sit back and relax ladies and gentle men as you may read the most boring blog EVER (hopefully not). 🤞🤞🤞

A massive congratulations to Jeremy Collis for winning a club run at Manjimup Motor Cross Club! 🏍🏍

⭐⭐Merit Award⭐⭐
Well done to Rhavi Howard for receiving our 6H Merit Award for week 6.  Rhavi receives this for his outstanding preparation, research and presenting skills on black holes. Rhavi demonstrated maturity and excellence when presenting to the class, using awesome expression, pitch and tone and making eye contact throughout the entire presentation. He really blew all of us away on his expansive knowledge of the topic. Well done Rhavi, keep up the hard work.

Learning from week 6 of Term 2:

Maths:
For math we are still learning and improving upon are skill on converting fractions to decimals and vice versa. We are also still currently doing our math rotations with 6R, after a daily recap, on top of all the converting. Shoot out is also a regular occurrence, our class timetables champs change daily.

Writing:
This week we are focusing on our Information Reports. We have currently been planning and writing our paragraphs for what a Numbat's diet is, we have also learnt to correct and improve upon an activity of which we make a paragraph of what a numbat's appearance is generalized to and create a superior paragraph to our teachers original one. Our class story book "Narnia Retold" is almost complete we are eagerly awaiting Noah and Rhavi's finished stories to add.

Reading:
In reading we are currently doing our reading rotations comprised of guided reading, readers theatre, reading comprehension and creative writing. We’re currently still tallying up how many books are read shared between all the students in 6H and our juggernaut or bookworm is Noah. Currently we are on a total of 31. 📚📙📘📗📕

Spelling:
In spelling we our doing our usual soundwaves spelling sheet and segmenting page. If you are in Mr T's group then unfortunately, you have to also do the dreadful definition writing for all the words (we love it really). 😎

Religion:
During Religion, we talked about the importance of saying sorry, this is also an important part of Making Jesus Real everyday and being a WESTIE. We have also completed our prayers and sorry notes about the stolen generation, comprised of a heart with a prayer written inside of it and an aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders coloured hand wheels.

Technologies:
In technologies we have been learning about sustainability. We learned about a true story of a student in Bangladesh - Iqbal who created a solar oven to help his family. We learnt about the power of a solar oven and how it can be used effectively in third world countries. We are in the process of making and designing our own solar ovens to cook four different types of foods in preparation for building them in two weeks time (Thursday 10th June). Heads up to parents, to not have an angry child on their heels,  I would advise talking to them about it and gathering all the needed supplies for the building process. Basically all students need to dream up their own design for a solar oven and start collecting the necessary materials. Students are not to purchase any materials but use recycling and materials from their home. Please see below the basic solar oven model and materials needed to make.
