Hello from Hudson and Noah - Week 9 learning Term 2

Kaya,

This blog has been expertly created by Hudson Morris and Noah Brice, and I am sure you will agree that they have done a wonderful job.

We are in the Wadandi, Makuru season that symbolizes Storms, rain/water and cold weather. It is the season of fertility.

Funny fact:
Did you know Tiegs brother Finn got stuck down the side of a trampoline when he was 6 years old?

👏🎤6H Has Got Talent💃🏃

A massive well done to all our Year 6 students that participated in their last ever OLC Cross Country last week. Every student gave 110% and demonstrated all of the OLC school values throughout the day. We are very proud of you all and you should be very proud of your effort. Well done to those that placed in the top 1-4.

Last Thursday and Saturday,  Lara Murray performed across five categories at the Bunbury Eisteddfod. Lara placed in all of her entries including classical, solo, folk song, musical theatre and contemporary. The absolute highlight for her was receiving first place in the contemporary solo/self-accompanied song 'Cover Me in Sunshine', which Lara sung and played on her ukulele. Congratulations Lara! What incredible talent you have!

Last Thursday and Friday, Dior Blackburn performed at her first ever Bunbury Eisteddfod. Dior received a highly commended for her solo and third place for her duo. Congratulations Dior! What incredible talent you have!

⭐⭐Merit Award⭐⭐
Well done to Georgia Breheny for receiving our 6H Merit Award for week 9.  Georgia has put in outstanding effort this term with her learning, particularly when focusing on writing and math. Georgia always demonstrates our OLC school values both inside and outside the classroom and can always be found helping a friend. Well done Georgia, keep up the hard work.

June Birthdays:
Georgia Breheny - 27th June
Jake Veitch- 28th of JuneJake Veitch - 28th June 2010
Happy Birthday to you all, we hope you have a wonderful June and a fantastic Birthday!

Learning from week 9 of Term 2:

Writing:
In writing this week we are doing our information reports about a south west animal of our choice. For example, I am doing the kookaburra for my south west animal for our information report. Noah is doing a quoka for his informative text on a south west animal.

Spelling:
This week we are focusing 😎 were doing our sound waves sheet and the sound for this week is [ir] for bird. The segmenting sheet is another thing for spelling.

Health:
This week in health we looked at friendships. We looked at how our friendships have changed from Year 1 to Year 6 and what our expectations are now for forming healthy relationships moving forward. We also looked at famous quotes about friendships and worked in groups to rewrite these quotes in our own words. See the awesome collaboration skills below.

Sport:
We got lucky with the sun twice this week thankfully. Our first sunny day was on Thursday for Cross Country and the second sunny day was when we wanted to use our solar ovens and host a sport lesson. Ellie, Cielo and Prada ran a great sport lesson on Friday. We got to play golden child! The girls successfully divided the class, talked about the rules and watched over the game. Everyone took part despite being exhausted from Cross Country - well done guys! 😀🌞

Technologies:
SMORES! SMORES! SMORES!
We did it! We finally got to test out our solar ovens. Well done to all the students on their hard work over the last few weeks and thank you to the parents for assisting in collecting the materials. Most solar ovens were successful despite it being Makuru, the wettest and coldest time of the year. Here are some of the amazing designs that cooked delicious s’mores. On Friday between recess and lunch, we were blessed with sunshine and thus able to put out our solar ovens...we were happy to report back that most of us had melted chocolate and some of us (depending on our design) soggy marshmallows too. YUM YUM!!
