Hello from Lara and Dior - Week 8 learning Term 2

Kaya,

This blog has been expertly created by Lara Murray and Dior Blackburn, and I am sure you will agree that they have done a wonderful job.

As you guys should know we are in the Wadandi season of Makuru. The season is represented by the colour dark blue and symbolises rain, storms, and cold weather. 💦💧☔⛆

Did you hear about Skyla’s accident that happened at Dior’s house whilst on a bike ride? Apparently, she flew over the handlebars and scraped her knee on the road. Luckily, there was a lovely man that helped her get up.

⭐⭐Merit Award⭐⭐
Well done to Myla Fursdon for receiving our 6H Merit Award for week 8.  Myla has been working very hard on smashing both personal and learning goals. Myla has been proactive with her learning and development in Year 6. She embodies the school values both inside and outside the classroom and we are very lucky to have her at OLC. Well done Myla, keep up the hard work.

Reading:
In reading this week, we are continuing with our usual reading groups, which are: Guided Reading, Reading Comprehension, Readers Theatre and Creative Writing. We have completed a total of 50 books this term so far! Do not forget to read for 20 mins every night.  ðŸ“šðŸ“™ðŸ“˜ðŸ“—📕

Writing:
In writing this week, we have started to plan for our informative texts. We had to choose a South-West animal to write about, for example I chose to write about the White-Cheeked Honey-eater.
Example plan for my informative text down below:

My South-West animal is: White Cheeked Honeyeater

Diet:

· Mainly flowers

· Insects

· Nectar

· White cheeks

· Pollen

Habitat and lifestyle:

· Moist heathlands

· Wetlands, forests, woodlands

· Found in subtropical and temperate zones

Physical Appearance:

· Black and white

· Medium sized

· Eyes dark brown

· Long sturdy bill that curves downwards

· Large bright yellow tail and wing panels

Link to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture:

Aboriginal name is Bandin (ban-deen)

Opinions about my animal:

· They are very fascinating

· They are very cute

Spelling:
This week we are focusing on the ‘g, gg’ Grapheme. (As in girl or egg) We are lucky we do not have an overload of spelling this week due to the five-day weekend! Although, we still must do the dreadful sound waves sheet. 😎

Sport:
Cam, Rhavi and Jake ran a great sport lesson on Friday. We got to play chair dodge! The boys successfully divided the class, talked about the rules and umpired the game. Some umpires were more enthusiastic than others. 😀

Technologies:
We did it! We finally made out solar ovens! Thank you to all the parents for helping us gather all of our materials that we needed. Now to see if they actually work and if we can make some yummy s'mores!
