Hello from Sian, Skyla and Holly Kerr - Week 9 Learning Term 3

Yey - we made it to the last week of Term 3. Well done to all the year 6 students, they have been working very hard over the past few weeks and have been acting like true school leaders. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Stellan, Marley (Year 4) and Ari on receiving their First Eucharist on Saturday night, it was a beautiful mass with Fr Israel and the boys did themselves and their families proud. Congratulations Ari.

This blog has been expertly created by Sian, Skyla and Holly Kerr, and I am sure you will agree that they have done a wonderful job.

⭐⭐Merit Award⭐⭐
Well done to Prada Piaggi for receiving our 6H Merit Award for week 9, Term 3. Prada won this merit award for her compelling and creative book week artwork and peace poster. Prada has put exceptional effort into everything she does. She captured the theme of the poster and the character of Asther beautifully. Well, done Prada on diligently applying your strength and gift of creativity to these projects.

Learning from week 8 of Term 3:

Math:
In math we are learning about angles and how to use protractors with 6H, do you know how many angles are in your name?
With 6R we are also learning about how to recognise linear patterns in algebra. Both classes have been working on ones like 68, 88, 108, 128 and 148 with the rule of the pattern being +20 or increasing by 20 each time.
Can you find the linear pattern in the following equation? 500, 466, 432, 398, 364 and 330?

Technologies and Science:
In technologies this week, we were very lucky to have Bunnings attend our class and donate some garden beds and native bush tucker plants that grow in the Southwest. Each year 6 had assigned jobs in a group, that rotated through the jobs every 15 minutes to provide everyone with the opportunity to work with the team from Bunnings. Thank you to the legends, Debbie and Garry.  In science this week,  we have been working on an outside classroom space. Step by Step we have improved working on this garden each week. We have also been making a sign and a picture to put up in our outdoor classroom for people to relax and work. All the students worked beautifully, despite the weather.

Important Information:

2040 Documentary Viewing

We would like to invite you and your child to come and watch the 2040 movie documentary at Our Lady of the Cape in the hall, after school on Wednesday 22nd September at 4pm.
In a world full of negativity about the current climate situation, add some inspiration and hope to both you and your child's mind. Where you find hope, you find change. The documentary is only 90 minutes long and there will be some small speeches by the students before and after the documentary.
Be Inspired by an Australian Documentary that is full of hope!
There will be a small gold coin donation to enter - $2 per person, all of this proceeds will be donated to the Numbat Association.

Footy Sport Colour Day
On the last day of school we will have a footy/sport colours day. Gold coin donation with all funds going to our pastoral care fridge and St Vinnies. 💚💚💚💚

Our Book Week celebration will be held in the final week of term with the dress-up assembly being held first part of the day on Wednesday the 22nd. Please allow your child to come in their costume on Wednesday morning.

Homework

The students homework is due on Friday the 24th of September. The students may also have to complete their calendar art at home if this is not completed in class time.

Please ensure all students are completing their homework and getting you to check it with a signature nightly and then signing the learning grid and homework diary on a Thursday afternoon before it is returned. Students who have not completed their homework will complete it during class time and during recess and lunch, an email will also be sent home to notify you. This organisation and time management skills is vital to aid in an easier transition to high school.

Home Learning Grid includes:

  1. Reading x 20 minutes every night - students to write up the pages that they read that night and the parent to sign every night.
  2. Spelling Activities - spelling grid to be completed in homework book.
  3. Three well-being tasks from learning grid.
  4. Any unfinished class tasks.
