Term 4 Week 5 learning and Important Information

 Kaya,

Can you believe that we are heading into week 6 already. I am so proud of the mature attitude that the students have started to show towards their learning specifically looking at the amount of tests they have had over the past few weeks. You should be very proud of their effort and input, no matter the grade they have all tried and worked their very best. 🏆

Did you know that Saturday was World Kindness Day? Engaging in acts of kindness produces endorphins, the brain's natural painkiller! Perpetually kind people have 23% less cortisol (the stress hormone) and age two times slower than the average population! So, we challenge you to make sure you get one act of random kindness every day this week. 💓💕

Term 4 week 5 Learning:

Year 6 Gift
Wow! Was all I could say, when I saw our amazing Year 6 gift to the school for 2021. Above is a picture of the Six Seasons mural on the water tank at the back of the oval. Thank you to the amazing parents that helped out and made this happen. A very special thank you to Jordanna Hall for her amazing and creative artistic skills and for organising the entire project. What an amazing legacy for the year 6 students to leave behind at OLC. When you are next at the school, please take a visit down to check it out.

Technologies
In technologies this week we continued to design and build our game controllers. The students did a fantastic job, building these controllers at home, thank you for your support and assistance with this. Some of the designs were out of this world amazing, definitely some future tech entrepreneurs in the class. All of the students designs worked when we hooked them up to a game on our computers. Next week we will be looking at coding on Scratch. Thank you to the P&F for fundraising to get our class 5 sets of Makey Makey kits.

Term 4 week 5 Information:

Vinnies Christmas Appeal
There will be a box at the front of 6H for collections next week for Vinnie's Christmas Appeal. Please be generous and thoughtful in what you donate. Thank you in advance for your support and donations. 💗

Year 6 End of Year Concert Dress
The theme for the end of year concert dress is ‘Casual Christmas Wear’. Christmas colours, t-shirts and Christmas accessories are all perfect for the occasion. Please note that members of the choir and OLC Dance Crew are asked to wear white with any Christmas accessories they would like to add. Mrs Sherborne and Mrs Haines.

Graduation PowerPoint
I am hoping that you can find and email me a photo of your child as a baby and/or toddler. We would like to create a PowerPoint for Graduation with these special photos, as well as others from their time at OLC. If you have any ripper photos from your child's time at OLC, we would greatly appreciate any donations. Please email them through so I can get onto this job as soon as I can.

Character Strengths
Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. If you wanted to learn more about this please follow the link to the 24 character strengths: https://www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths
This upcoming week we are looking for people who show Perspective. Can you encourage your child to reflect on the following?

Homework

The students homework is due on Friday the 19th of November

Please ensure all students are completing their homework and getting you to check it with a signature nightly and then signing the learning grid and homework diary on a Thursday afternoon before it is returned. Students who have not completed their homework will complete it during class time and during recess and lunch, an email will also be sent home to notify you. This organisation and time management skills is vital to aid in an easier transition to high school.

Home Learning Grid includes:

  1. Reading - The students will have specific chapters to have read for homework from their novel. This will need to be read to ensure that the students can participate in book club and novel studies every day in class.
  2. Math - BEDMAS (Order of Operations) worksheet
  3. Spelling Activities - pick 3 activities from the spelling menu to complete in the week.
  4. Three well-being tasks from learning grid

Miss Hurst
