Week 1 - Term 1 2022

What an exciting first week we had! I am very proud of our little 6H family and their resilience this week, with first week jitters, new roles and responsibilities and swimming lessons in choppy water with lots of wind. Each student showed the OLC school values despite feeling tired. I hope they rest up this weekend and are ready for another week full of learning, swimming and fun! 🏊



Swimming Lessons - Next week, the swimming lessons will run from Monday to Friday and we will be departing the school at 8.45am. Your child will need to arrive to school on time. Please ensure they come to school ready for swimming, they can wear bathers and rashies under their sport uniform. Please ensure that they have sunscreen on before arriving to school as we will not have time to apply before arriving at the beach. Students will need to wear their enclosed sport shoes and bring their thongs with them. They can change as soon as they arrive to school. We will arrive back to the school after swimming lessons at approx 10.10am. Please ensure that all clothing and equipment including googles are appropriately labelled.

COVID - When entering the class please enter through the wet area, where you can wash your hands and sanitize. This will become a requirement and a routine for anybody entering the class. In line with Government mandates people over 12 will need to wear a mask when entering the classrooms and scan in using the Safe WA QR code on the wet room windows. Please note there is two difference codes, one for 6H and one for 6M. 


Making Jesus Real - Could you please check if the students have their Making Jesus Real book at home from last year. If the students have the books at home could you please ask them to take it with them to school please? 




Canteen Menu - Canteen will be open Tuesday and Thursday and will be running on a scaled back menu. 
Recess Menu -pikelets are unavailable for the time being and everything else is the same
Tuesday - Pizza only
Thursday - Toasties only
Online ordering only - no food available from the window to buy with cash. 


After School Sport and Running Club - After school sport and running club will commence in week 4 when the wonderful Mrs Sinclair gets back to school. After school sport will be held on a Thursday afternoon and running club will be on a Wednesday morning. Forms will be sent out soon. 

Exercise and Scrap Book Covers – Over the year the students exercise books may become quite worn out, therefore we recommend buying your child clear book covers (please see image below for example - these can be found at Kmart, Officeworks, BigW and Callows). We will be giving the students cover pages to glue on so they can easily identify their books. Using these covers helps the books to last better through the year and reinforces care and respect for their workbooks.


Term 1 Timetable - Please see below picture of our current swimming class timetable for 6H starting Monday. There will be changes to this timetable in week 3 when swimming lessons ends. I have posted the other class timetable below. Please note that the only change will be Dance on a Friday. Dance will only run until the end of Term 2. 



Please note when week 3 arrives 6H has physical education with Mrs Sinclair on Tuesday and dance with Mrs Haines on a Friday, so therefore 6H will have to wear their teal school sport uniform on Tuesday and their faction sport uniform on Friday. 

Uniform – Please check in with the school website for the summer uniform policy and make sure that your child adheres to our guidelines. Both boys and girls must have their hair off their face and tied up if it falls below their collar.

External Support Providers – Parents, does your child receive services onsite at OLC during the school day? Either NDIS funded Speech Therapy, OT, Physiotherapy and the like, or music tuition from an outside provider? We are currently reviewing our policy and procedures around this space and require an audit. Character Strengths 
Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. Important Camp Reminders and Important Information

K AY A, Can you believe that it is only 3 sleeps until we depart for Year 6 camp??? The students are going to have the most amazing time; we will be taking part in activities like wall climbing, zip-lining, abseiling and orienteering as well as lots of fun group activities.  Please remember we will depart OLC at 8.50 on Wednesday morning. Your student will need to arrive at normal school time (8.30am) and place their bags for camp outside the hall in front of the double doors. They will then make their way to the classroom for the class role. Students will need to ensure they have used the bathroom as the bus is a two hour drive. They will also need to take out any medical items from their bag and provide this to the teacher in a clear zip lock bag with their name on it.  Even though it is a very exciting time, we are aware that for many, it is a time for nervousness. Junior Archie Project

Kaya Well, we are getting close to the end of the year so there are some projects that are coming to fruition.  One of those is the Junior Archie project that the Year 6's have been working on after learning a little about the Archibald Prize portrait competition.   The students have worked on a number of techniques to assist with drawing facial features and have had a number of lessons in class to plan, draft and commence their final portrait.  On Onenote, students have access to the videos we watched to practice these techniques and the rubric that will be used to assess the final piece.  Students have been advised that they will have this weekend and next to complete this final portrait.  Can you please support your child to have this portrait completed and submitted by Wednesday 15 November. Week 8 of Term 3

K AY A, Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dad's, brothers, grandparents, uncles of our 6H students. We hope you have been spoilt today!  Thank you for your generous gifts for the Operation Christmas Child 🤶🎅🎄 there will be some very happy children receiving gifts from the 6H students. Please remember to send in the $2.50 for postage if you have not already done so.  Merit Award Week 7  Congratulations to Ava Lewis for receiving the 6H Merit award for week 7. Ava received this award for consistently displaying the OLC school values to everyone she meets. Ava, you should be very proud of your growth and learning over the last two terms. I love how you have developed your confidence in working independently. You have really shown a growth mindset when approaching all learning especially when working on mathematics.
