Week 4 - Term 1 2022 - From bloggers Olivia and Ava

KAYA,

From Olivia and Ava, we are class bloggers. This week year six class has just finished all of the PAT tests, YAY! Good job to all our classmates for trying the hardest they can. 💓

Sit back and relax while we tell you about our week...... 😀

Firstly, did you know that the Wadandi season this month is Bunuru? Bunuru is when there are hot days with warm night, good time to camp and fish along the west coast and south coastal areas for herring, taylor, bream and migrating salmon. Last Tuesday, Andrew (Ava’s Dad) came into the school to show us all Ava's brothers skulls. We got to see lots of amazing skulls. Some of them wear the Read Dear skull, Eagle, albatross and so many more. It was such a great experience. ☠

⭐⭐Merit Award⭐⭐
Well done to Mia Wrightson for receiving our first 6H Merit Award for 2022. Mia received this award for her exceptional start to OLC. Mia, we are so lucky that you enjoyed the 6H family. Thank you for making green choices when it comes to setting yourself up for your learning. You continue to showcase all of the OLC school values of Compassion, Appreciation, Respect and Excellence despite only being here for four weeks. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings for you. Well done Mia, you are already an OLC champion.

6H Important Reminders

Prayer Vigil
OLC families, the situation in Ukraine is one of deep concern, and we have a number of families at our school with direct ties to the country. I invite you to join us for a 30 minute silent prayer vigil on Wednesday afternoon at 4.00pm on the school oval to pray for world peace, and to comfort our families. Please feel free to bring a battery operated light source as a symbol of hope. All are welcome. Kind Regards, Amie Meyer.

Laptops
Lately classmates have been needing to charge their laptops during class time. This has been a bit of a trouble because it has been disturbing the class. Parents, please remind your children to charge their laptops every night!

Library on Wednesday
Our year 6 has just started library so it is important for them to bring their bags. As well, this year it is good for them to go to the library considering we have to read 30 to 40 minutes at home for homework. Therefore, PLEASE can you remember to bring your bags every Wednesday. Year 6 students can borrow up to 6 books at a time.

MJR Books
This is the last year of MJR and it is very important to get the MJR books in to finish of the last bit of the book. Please ask your children if they have it at home and if they do make sure they put it in there bags to bring to school.

Character Strengths
Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. The strengths that we will focus on are taken directly from the VIA Institute for Character. 6H Learning

Writing
In Week 4, we have recently done a cold task and we all smashed it. Now we are working on the 5 senses when it comes to describing settings in stories. Also, we have been looking at the STEAL technique for describing characters. Speech, Thoughts, Emotions, Actions and Looks of characters. An example is cranky and cross Ms Trunchbull from Matilda.

Math
In Math we have been learning about multiples and factions. Miss Hurst have shared some funny videos on multiples and fractions, our favourite song is below, it is so catchy. The work sheets have helped us to memorize what they are and how we use them. We are now looking at Prime numbers and composite. As well we have study, them and figure out what they are and what they are used for. Mathletics has been a big help.

Art
In our art section we have been leaning about an artist call Jackson Pollak. We read a book about his art then we came up with our own style of his art. His style of art is called dip painting. When Jackson was young at school he got in a lot of trouble at school. He put his emotions in his artwork. Some of his art was dark and gloomy which made us think maybe he was sad that day when he was doing his art. Other pieces were happy and colourful. Some of his arty works are 1 in the world. For our art we used paint and tools like spoons, sticks, straws. Then after we did the splatters, we drew a charter on our page in black marker. This was such a fun thing to do, and they all turned out great.

Don't forget to check out our seesaw posts on our artwork with our response on the work and the artwork.

Religion
In Religion we are looking at saving the planet from dying. We got into groups and are making a video about what the future will be like if we keep polluting or if we stop polluting. You could choose what you wanted to do but it just had to be about the planet. We used props and all types of cool fetchers. They are looking amazing. The groups came up with the most creative ideas. This is a great way to practice our filming skills.

Homework
This year is just reading and timetables for homework. So please make sure you do your reading every night for 30 to 40 minutes. The next two weeks we will be working on the x4 timetables. We hope you are doing them even if you already know them. We bring our homework in on every Second Friday. Please make sure to keep your diary up to date and get it signed by your parents.

Joke Time
Q. What did the kid say to the teacher?
A. My dog ate my homework!

Q. Why shouldn’t you write with a broken pencil
A. It is pointless!

Q. What has for wheels and flies?
A: A garbage truck!

Thank you so much for reading our blog we hope you enjoyed it!
