Week 4 Term 2

KAYA,

First let me say, how very proud I was of both our 6H candidates and buddies this morning at the Sacrament of Confirmation. πŸ’– It was a beautiful ceremony and the students were reverent and made all of OLC proud. Well done to all of the candidates that received the Holy Spirit and a special thank you to Bishop Holohan, Father Ian and Mrs Meyer for their hard work and support on this beautiful ceremony. The OLC band also rocked the room, thank you to Mrs King for the preparations on this! πŸ₯πŸŽΈπŸŽ€

Friendology

As part of our whole school approach to managing and supporting student friendships at OLC, we will be continuing to use the URSTRONG Friendology program. URSTRONG is an award-winning friendship program that empowers kids with friendship skills to create communities of kindness in schools.

In order to really expose the students to this program, this year you may have noticed that the students have a friendology diary. Every month there is a key focus, it would be great if you could read through this focus with your child and have an open discussion.

Throughout this program so far in 6H we have revised the four friendship facts (see below) and looked at healthy and unhealthy friendships.

Last week, we focused on Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTS) and perfectionism. We learnt how to identify the students most persistent A.N.Ts (Automatic Negative Thoughts) and learnt how to develop ways to focus on more positive, enabling thoughts. We also discussed perfectionism and how it can really destroy a process and learning. We discussed that it was important to aim high and try your very best however, aiming to be perfect in everything is not feasible or sustainable.

Aboriginal Garden Maintenance

Tomorrow afternoon, the students from 6H and 6M will be working in the Aboriginal Garden at the back of the school oval. We will be preparing the area for safe boundary burn offs and also tidying and maintaining the Aboriginal garden. This is part of our care of our common home and following the Pope's letter - Laudato Si.

Can you please allow your child to wear their sport uniform, bring a rain jacket and bring gardening gloves and a rake or shovel if you have one. (Please label with a sticker and the students name).

Human Development
On Thursday, week 7 the students will participate in Human Development talks that will be presented by The Centre for Life, Marriage and Family. They will cover an introductory program on growth and development with the Year 6 students via zoom.
A permission slip will be sent home this week that must be completed and returned for your child to participate. Please ensure this is returned by the end of week 5, otherwise we will assume your child is not participating and will be sent to another classroom. We will also be starting the discussion of our bodies and their changes during Health sessions over the upcoming weeks also. If this is something you would also like to start discussing at home over the upcoming weeks, that would be supportive.

Confirmation Certificates
On Friday this week, we will be awarding the Confirmation candidates their certificates in the hall with a small morning tea afterwards with cupcakes provided by two of our awesome parents. I will send more information regarding the timing of this morning tea during the week.

I hope you have a wonderful week, please do not hesitate to reach out to me should you have any questions.

Thank you,

Miss Hurst
