Week 6 Learning and Information

KAYA,

It has been wonderful to see some of the students back to class that have been absent. I cannot wait until we have a full class again!
We explored the history behind National Sorry Day and participated in some activities and celebrations which made this learning real for the students. Next week we will be celebrating National Reconciliation Week. It has been wonderful to see and hear the students mature, open responses to this important day in Australian History and participate in the healing of a country.

This weekend I went to Wellington Dam to enjoy the view of the spectacular mural on the dam wall. This mural is the biggest mural on a dam in the world. How wonderful that this is on our back doorstep. Artist Guido van Helten titled the huge 8000 square metre mega-mural “Reflections.” It took four months to complete and features images of Collie mines workers, families playing in the water, a celebration of Aboriginal children and other scenes taken from actual photographs of Collie's history.

6H Star Citizen - Appreciation

Well done to Kai Gleeson for receiving the star citizen for week 5 for 6H for appreciation. Kai continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and deep levels of appreciation for all who surround him. We could all learn a thing or two about appreciation from him. Well done Kai!

Year 6 Camp

Thankfully, the Year 6 camp is back on (Yipee)! It will be held in week 2 Term 3, in Waroona! We will depart the school on Wednesday the 27th of July and will return on Friday the 29th of July. The cost for camp will be approx $350 per student including food, travel and activities.

The students will take home a camp form this week. This will need to be completed and sent back to the classroom teachers by the end of week 7.

Camp Homework:
This week the students will have to begin their Seesaw Camp homework. This weeks task will include setting and clearing the table from dinner every day. They will need to video one of the days that they set the table and one of the days that they clear the table and upload this to seesaw. Please ensure you support your child in getting this done as it will be awesome preparation for what they will be expected to do on camp. If your child does this anyway it will be an easy task and fun to make the video.

Rube Goldberg Machine
Last week in science the students began exploring energy and as part of this, I have set them all a challenge...to create and video a Rube Goldberg Machine.  The students have explored what these machines are and have watched a few video examples of what it could include. This task is a homework challenge and as I have posted on the Seesaw activity, the video is due in week 8, so please support your child to take on this challenge.
Thanks
Mr Mc

Friendology
In Friendology, this week the students looked at healthy and unhealthy friendships that they have in their life. This lesson involved the students reflecting on those friendships in their lives and then evaluating how those friendships made them feel. The students created a mind-map of their friendship groups and then showcased the healthy and unhealthy relationships. The start of the lesson involved going over the four key friendship facts:
  1. No friendship (relationship) is perfect.
  2. Every friendship is different.
  3. Trust and Respect are the most important qualities of a friendship.
  4. Friendships change and that is okay.

Human Development
On Thursday, week 8 the students will participate in Human Development talks that will be presented by The Centre for Life, Marriage and Family. They will cover an introductory program on growth and development with the Year 6 students via zoom.

I have emailed parents whom I have not received the permission slip for, can you please ensure you reply to my email with your position on their attendance. Otherwise we will assume your child is not participating and will be sent to another classroom.

This week we will be discussing safe places to look for information on puberty including talking to family, talking to teachers, talking to health professionals, etc. If this is something you would also like to start discussing at home over the upcoming weeks, that would be supportive.

Dance for Sick Kids
Congratulations to Ellie on the Dance for Sick Kids Fundraiser on Monday. The students had a fab time for a good cause and $530.00 was raised. Well done! If you would like to watch the awesome session you can view it on Seesaw.
