Week 4 of Term 3
KAYA,
I am sure your children have shared with you all the amazing tales and stories from camp. We had the best time and the students made you guys very proud. They should continuous resilience and bravery in all activities and showed kindness to everyone around them. 💛 At the end of this week the students will have access to a folder where they can view all the pictures taken by the teachers. You can then revisit the stories and activities with your child on their laptop.
A special thank you goes to the amazing staff at Forest Edge. Also, a massive thank you goes to the sensational team of teachers that came along with us, Mrs King, Mr Danaher, Mr Jones, Mrs Meyer, Mrs Costin, Mr McSevich and Mrs Hayward. This camp would not have happened without your hard work and dedication. Lastly, the biggest thank you goes to Matt Archer for coming along as a parent helper. You were a wonderful addition to the team!
Run offs for Sport Carnival
On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Sinclair has asked the students of 6H to wear their sport uniform and sneakers to school to participate in the run offs with 6M for sport carnival.
6H Merit Award
Congratulations to Aurelia for winning the 6H merit award last week. This was awarded to Aurelia for her keen leadership and organisational skills in our team on camp. Aurelia, blew me away with her persistence despite her fear of heights, she really exhibited deep resilience and she should be very proud of herself. Thank you Aurelia, for showing what an OLC leader looks like, sounds like and feels like whilst on camp. Keep up the great work Aurelia. This upcoming Friday 12th of August we are celebrating the 26th anniversary of OLC and the feast of the Assumption of Mary. This year, the markets will be focused on raising money for the Catholic Mission Australia with the profits of the day going to charities in Thailand. We would love the children to bring money that they have earned from doing jobs around the house so that they can understand the value of the money they are donating.
The Year 6 students will not be running a stall this year as they will have to assist and help run the event all day. Each Year 6 student will be assigned a stall and a year group to help for the day. The Year 6 students will also have an opportunity to spend money on the day.
We have just started our class novel for book week, "Rabbit, Solider, Angel, Thief" by Katrina Nannestad. This is a wonderful novel with a deep story, your child may come home and talk about some of the themes that we explore in the book.
Operation Christmas Child 🎄🎅🤶
It's that time of year that we participate in the 'Operation Christmas Child' shoe box initiative that has been a wonderful OLC tradition for many years and reflects our school value of Compassion so well. These shoe boxes are sent to underprivileged children throughout the world as a gift for Christmas. The children will be placed into in groups of five and between them, they will fill a shoebox with a variety of items. The items do not need to be expensive. Each child in the group will be asked to cover the cost of sending the shoebox to its final destination. We ask them to bring in $2.50 each. The children will be given time in the classroom to pack the shoebox and explore some of the places that their shoe boxes may be travelling to.
Your child has been asked to bring in one of the following:
- Something to love- Something to play with
- Something to draw with or write on
- Something for personal hygiene
- Something to wear
Here are the things that are NOT allowed in the shoe boxes:
Lollies; chocolate or food; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquid paint; toothpaste; shampoo; aerosol cans; bubbles; crayons; plasticine/playdough; medicine; vitamins; used clothes; old toys; glass; porcelain; mirrors; war-related items; toy guns, knives; military figures; skull and crossbones; Halloween items; play money; playing cards; dominoes; tracts and Bibles (children are given an Operation Christmas Child evangelistic book at an outreach event).
