Term 4 - Week 4

Kaya,

2 weeks down - 6 to go, can you believe it?

What a jam packed week we have had, from Journey Sticks, dancing, swimming trials and grandparents day! I cannot believe we are on the countdown with only 6 weeks left to go. We have another busy week ahead with testing and the swimming carnival on Friday.

Thank you so much to all the grandparents that visited our 6H family on Friday, it was a pleasure to welcome you to our classroom. It was so lovely to watch the students show you their work with pride! Well done to 5R for kicking off the prayer and performance assemblies, it was a beautiful assembly and it was wonderful watching the students dance and sing in celebration of their grandparents. 💓

Merit Award
Well done to Emerson Hughes for receiving this weeks merit award. This was for her mammoth effort and energy she puts into everything she does. Emerson, gives 110% whilst working on her learning journey. She exhibits consistent leadership skills and can be seen demonstrating what it means to be an active learner who strives for excellence. Well done Emerson, this will be awesome for your transition to high school.

PAT Testing
We did not get through as many PAT tests last week as planned due to the swimming trials and our incursion. I felt that the students needed to feel more rested before the tests. This week they will have to complete the remaining tests. They do not need to prepare for these in any way, however it is important that they get a good night's rest each day to ensure they are refreshed and ready.
PAT Tests Days:
Monday - Spelling Test
Tuesday - Vocabulary Test
Thursday - Grammar and Punctuation Test

Swimming Carnival
On Friday, we will be attending the swimming carnival at the swimming pool with years 4-6 at the Geographe Leisure Centre. The students will depart school on the bus at 8.40am. Please ensure your child has returned their permission slip with information on if they will be travelling back to school on the bus or being picked up from the pool.

Please ensure your child has on the day:

· Bathers – worn to school under their faction sports uniform at Carnival (teal sport polo only for trials)

· Sports shoes and socks worn to school – thongs can be worn at the pool only

· Faction coloured sport uniform

· Recess, lunch and water

· Hat

· Towel

· Sunscreen

Rashie – for sun protection and practical reasons, all students swimming are to wear a rashie in and out of the pool.

Please make sure all items are clearly labelled. Please apply sunscreen to your child before they leave for school.

Year 6 Cultural Incursion
On Wednesday the Year 6 students were very lucky to have a cultural incursion with Josh Whiteland from Koomal Dreaming. Josh, worked with the students and taught them how to make a Journey stick. This journey stick symbolizes the journey have had from Primary school to High School. The students will use these sticks through the graduation ceremony and then they can take them home.

Important - Graduation PowerPoint
I am are hoping that you can find and email me a photo of your child as a baby and/or toddler. We would like to create a PowerPoint for Graduation with these special photos, as well as others from their time at OLC. If you have any ripper photos from your child's time at OLC, we would greatly appreciate any donations. Please email them through so I can get onto this job as soon as I can.

Homework

Students who have not completed their homework will complete it during class time and during recess and lunch, an email will also be sent home to notify you. This organisation and time management skills is vital to aid in an easier transition to high school.
