Operation Christmas Child and Human Development Workshop

 Good evening parents,

This week the students should have brought home two important notes regarding important initiatives that they will be participating in. Please see below for further information about both.

Human Development Workshop

On Wednesday 2nd August, week 3 the students will participate in Human Development talks that will be presented by The Centre for Life, Marriage and Family. They will cover an introductory program on growth and development with the Year 6 students via zoom.

A permission slip was be sent home TODAY that must be completed and returned for your child to participate. Please ensure this is returned by the end of week 2 (next week), otherwise we will assume your child is not participating and will be sent to another classroom. We will also be starting the discussion of our bodies and their changes during Health & Religion sessions over the upcoming weeks also. If this is something you would also like to start discussing at home over the upcoming weeks, that would be appreciated.

If the permission slip did not make it's way home to you, here is a link to print it out at home and return it to school.

Operation Christmas Child

All the children in Year Six will soon  participate in  'Operation Christmas Child' which is an initiative with the goal of packing shoeboxes full of little surprises to give to a child who may have never received a gift before. By participating in this our children will have a first hand experience aimed at building the school value of compassion.

Your child will be grouped with four other children to contribute and pack the shoe box. The cost to send a shoe box will be $2.50 per child.  We are asking you to encourage your child to do something extra at home to earn the money that is needed to buy the item to put into the provided shoe box.

Please see below an example of the provided shoe box for Operation Christmas child:

Your child brought home a note on Tuesday which indicated what age, gender and category your child needs to provide for. The categories include: something to loves, something to play with, something to draw with and write on, something of personal hygiene and something to wear. We are asking for all donations to be brought to school by Friday 18th August (Week 5) please. It is very exciting for the children to share in this initiative which has been a part of the OLC community for the last 19 years.

There is no need to bring in shoe boxes, as we have been kindly donated them from The Samaritans Purse.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN TOOTHPASTE
